Whirlpool vs. Frigidaire: Which Is Better?

Whirlpool and Frigidaire are two of the most respected home appliance brands in the US, and with good reason. Both have a long history of making reliable, beautiful appliances at fair prices. Both companies also have competitive warranty and repair programs, plus a wide selection of models to meet specific homeowner needs. But which is better?

We’ll explain both companies and help you decide which brand is best for your next big appliance purchase.

Meet Frigidaire

Frigidaire was founded in 1918 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, by Nathaniel B. Wares and Alfred Mellows. The pair designed and built the first self-contained refrigerator, a technology that caught on almost immediately as more American homes connected to the grid.

Backed by the founder of General Motors and other investors, the company grew steadily through the 1940s and 50s, ultimately being acquired by GM.

In 1979, the brand was spun off by GM and acquired six years later by Electrolux.

Who Makes Frigidaire?

Frigidaire is still owned by Electrolux. Although most of the company’s manufacturing has shifted to China, Electrolux owns facilities in Mexico and its US home base in Springfield, Tennessee. As the parent company of Frigidaire, Electrolux has positioned the product line as the go-to line-up for most middle-class households. Some higher-end Frigidaire appliances are available, but most of its products are priced near the mid-mark of the industry.

Is Frigidaire A Good Brand?

Absolutely! Known for reliability and affordability, Frigidaire is one of the most popular brands sold at Max’s and a staple of millions of American households. Most of Frigidaire’s products come with a one-year warranty, which can be extended for a fee.

Meet Whirlpool

Whirlpool was founded in 1911, just a few years before Frigidaire. Initially, the brand focused on washing machines, with founder Louis Upton designing some of the earliest modern designs. Soon, the company expanded into other home appliances, including refrigerators, putting it toe-to-toe with industry leaders like Frigidaire.

Who Owns Whirlpool?

Whirlpool actually owns several brands you’ve almost certainly heard of, including Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana, JennAir, and more. The conglomerate employs more than 60,000 people worldwide and operates nine manufacturing plants in the US. It owns an additional 60 manufacturing plants globally.

Is Whirlpool  A Good Brand?

You bet! Whirlpool is widely considered one of the best US-made appliance brands on the market. The company’s combination of quality and choice is a key differentiator and gives homeowners nearly endless options, especially when considering the models other Whirlpool brands offer.

Which Is Better, Frigidaire or Whirlpool?

Both brands offer exceptional build quality, a wide selection of models, and a range of price points. Frigidaire offers more low-to-mid-range options, while Whirlpool is known for slightly higher quality and better energy efficiency across its product lineup. At Max’s, we’ll help you choose the right manufacturer and model for your needs.
