This summer, things are slowly getting back to normal. Here in Traverse City, that means the return of the National Cherry Festival!
It’s been a tradition for generations and missing out on our beloved festival due to COVID-19 last year really had an impact on our community. This year, the Festival Foundation has worked to provide a festival that balances safety and fun that will surely make things feel a bit more like normal!
We’ve had a peek at the 2021 schedule of events picked out just a few of our favorites that you will not want to miss!
Saturday, July 3. Norte Kids Balance Bike Race. Not every event takes place at the Open Space, and this family-friendly bike race for kids five years old and under is at the Civic Center! Norte provides programming and bike access to kids in Traverse City and across the region.
Registration: 9:00-9:45, Race from 10-11am.
Fee: Free!
Location: Grand Traverse Civic Center
Sunday, July 4. Old Town Classic Car Show. The name stays the same, but there’s a new location for this showcase for some of the region’s coolest classic cars. The show brings together classics of all makes and models, this year gathered at the Grand Traverse Commons.

July 8-10. Ultimate Air Dogs. Love dogs? Of course, you do! These four-legged athletes go long for the biggest jump in this fun, multi-day competition. It’s always a family favorite and you’ll undoubtedly start training your own pup the second you get home to get them ready for next year!

Location: The Open Space
July 10. Meijer Festival of Races. Join hundreds of runners for your choice of distance and celebrate summer with a run! This is always one of the most enjoyable races of the year and it’s a blast to have this race back after a one-year hiatus.
