Are you thinking about a kitchen remodel for 2023? If so, I’m sure you’re deep into digging into the perfect colors and patterns to create the kitchen space of your dreams. To lend a helping hand, we did a little digging ourselves to help you get familiar with some kitchen designs that are coming into style for the new year. Perhaps more important, we’ll also look at a few kitchen designs that are trending out of fashion.
Reimagined Islands: Kitchen islands are making a major comeback, but with a twist. Designers are incorporating new form factors and new functions for kitchen islands that will dramatically change the role they play in your kitchen looks, as well as how you use your kitchen.
Warm Wood: Dark-stained woods are having a moment. Darker stains have been part of a more timeless kitchen aesthetic, with designers incorporating them into more and more designs.
Pattern and Color: People are done with basic and boring. Wallpapers, paint patterns, bright colors - kitchens are going to look spicier than ever in 2023 and beyond!

All White Kitchens: Turns out, my mother-in-law was way ahead of the game on this one! White kitchens have long since faded in popularity, with 2022 bringing the aesthetic’s death-knell once and for all. The reasoning? Consumers are tired of the dullness and designers want to bring in more color. These desires make all-white kitchens a thing of the past.
Open Kitchens: It seems as though walls separating your kitchen (and you) from other rooms (and your family) are kind of a good thing, as it turns out. Walls also enable homeowners to better cultivate a kitchen’s own distinct look from other rooms in the home when more clearly blocked off. Plus, not seeing a pile of dirty dishes from the living room while you’re trying to relax is kind of nice, right?
Matte Black Hardware: Black appliances look sleek, hide dirt and grease, and tend to blend into a kitchen’s design. However, real estate “flippers” overdid it on black appliances for more than a few years now. The ubiquitousness of black appliances means that fresh, unique kitchen designs largely exclude black kitchen appliances.
