There are plenty of habits that people have when they’re stressed. After a long election season, nerves are frayed and Election Day feels like something we should be grimacing over. So what’s our anxiety-reducer? Baking.
On November 3, turn off the TV and fire up the oven. Baking is a real stress reducer for many people, and there are so many delicious ways to celebrate democracy, even if it doesn’t feel like a time to celebrate. We’ve put together a few red, white, blue, and delicious treats to cover up the bad taste in your mouth.
Cherry Blueberry Pie. Do yourself a favor and just get a pre-made crust for this one. Take out the stress and whip up a patriotic pie! Use a pizza cutter to the top crust to make stars and stripes; done right, and you’ll have some small pieces to roll in cinnamon and sugar and bake as a cheeky side snack!
Election Day Trifle. This one is all about red, white, and blue! This recipe comes from one of our all-time favorite food blogs, Brown-Eyed Baker. She’s got a great look at how to make a layered trifle that’s fresh, bright, and patriotic. We love the angel food cake in this!
Flag Pizza! Since the oven is hot, try pizza! This is a delicious treat that lets the whole family get involved...what’s more democratic than that? Decorate your pizza with your favorite toppings, just make sure you get the stars and stripes right.
Partisan Party Cupcakes. If your family is split, here’s how to pick a winner at home. Whip up a dozen or so cupcakes and top each one with an elephant or a donkey; it’s a tie if they’re all gone by the end of the night!
